The Schoolhouse

The Cooksville Community Center (CCC) would like to keep you informed about local events and programming happening in the village of Cooksville.  The CCC is the historic schoolhouse on the corner of State Rd. 59 and Church St.  Although it is not heated, the Center has air-conditioning, a kitchen with hot and cold water, and bathrooms (cold water only).  The Community Center is available for rentals, and is not handicapped-accessible.
Not yet a member? Please consider supporting the Cooksville Community Center with a $25.00 lifetime membership. We are always looking for new ideas and help with programming and maintenance of the CCC. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us by adding a comment to this blog.

A reception will follow at the Community Center; come meet the performers with your friends and neighbors, and enjoy some light refreshments.

July 4 (Mon): 12:30 pm. Independence Day Potluck Picnic on the Commons. Old and New Settlers alike are invited to partake in midday summertime fare alongside your neighbors, kinfolk, village visitors, squirrels, ants, and woodpeckers. August 6 (Sat): 2:00 pm. 4thAnnual Christmas in Summer Pageant. Dashing through the oats, on a John Deere baling hay, to the schoolhouse we will go, for an afternoon of play! An old-fashioned all-school Play Day will follow on the Commons, so wear your athletic shoes!

Come share your comments, questions, concerns, and requests of the Community Center, and make a difference in your village! Arrgh.

October 22 (Sat) 6:30pm: The Cooksville Halloween Party That Time Forgot. Cooksville Community Center. Yes, friends, this is the event you remember attending as a kid, when you ruined your Cruella DeVille feather boa bobbing for Viney’s apples and you lost your brother’s goodie bag in the woods. What cherished memories are in store for your family this year? Please bring a treat to share.  There will be a bonfire behind the schoolhouse. The decorating pixies meet at noon, if you would like to help spook up the schoolhouse. Costumes encouraged!

December 3 (Sat) 4:30 pm. 4th annual Welcome Christmas Vigil. Cooksville Country Store. We meet at dusk for a lantern-lit walk through the village. Add your voice to the chorus as we sing in the Advent season, embrace the darkest days of the year, and welcome the return of the light at Christmas and the glorious start to Winter. There will be a brief children’s service at the Lutheran Church followed by the release of Sky Luminaries on the Commons.

Special Events at Cooksville Lutheran Church:
Celebrating 125 years in Cooksville in 2016!!

Seems like only yesterday, but this charming country Church has contributed a wealth of family stories and
collective memories to the village through the decades, in good times and bad. Cooksville Lutheran is truly a cornerstone of the community and serves not only its congregation, but everyone who lives in the area. Before the Lutheran Church was built on Church Street, this congregation met in homes or in the local schoolhouse, which is now the Cooksville Community Center. The Church is observing this milestone with several special events, open to everyone.

August 14 (Sun) 11:30 am. Tour of the Cooksville Cemetery. Cooksville Lutheran Church parking lot. Jennifer Ehle, with an introduction by Larry Reed, will lead a tour and discussion of the history of the families buried in the cemetery adjacent to the Lutheran Church.  Despite its location, this cemetery is surprisingly not directly associated with the Church.  If you have family members buried in this scenic spot or love local history, please come and share your stories.

September 18 (Sun) 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. Cooksville Lutheran Church Fall Festival. The Festival features great food, games, musical entertainment, wagon tours of the village, and a raffle.  This annual event is great fun for the whole family.

November 13 (Sun) 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Cooksville Lutheran Dinner at Creekside Place. 102 Maple Street, Evansville. Join your neighbors for a catered dinner out at Creekside and share your memories of the Church, Cooksville, and our rural corner of Rock County. There are sure to be some interesting stories, and there will undoubtedly be new stories in the making.
