Calendar of Events for the Cooksville Community Center



Clean Up Day at the Center Saturday, May 3rd, 9:00 – 12:00 a.m.
Come join the crew to shine up the Center for a new season. We will tackle both the
interior and exterior part of the Center. Bring a rag, sponge and bucket, broom and
dustpan. Treats will be served. Location: Cooksville Community Center.

Walking Tour of the Village Sunday, May 4th, 4:00 – 5:30 p.m.
Congregate at the Center at 4:00 p.m. where Larry Reed will give an introduction to the
history of the village. Larry will then lead the group in a guided walking tour of the
village’s Historic District from the Schoolhouse, around the Public Square and to the
Store, and back to the Schoolhouse, viewing the exteriors of about 20 historic buildings.
The tour does not include visiting any interiors except for the Cooksville General Store
and the Schoolhouse. The cost is $6 per person. Proceeds will benefit the Cooksville
Community Center and Historic Cooksville Trust.

Stoughton Chamber Singers Concert and Bel Canto String Ensemble Concert
Wednesday, June 4th, 7:00 p.m.

"Sing Me A Song and Play Me a Tune" is the title that
the Stoughton Chamber Singers and the Bel Canto String Ensemble have chosen for their
spring program, to be directed by John Beutel. The program will be varied with a
madrigal or two, some sacred choral literature, a spiritual, a folksong from the
Sephardic Jewish culture and music of Cole Porter. Tickets are $5 and available at the
door. Location: Cooksville Church, intersection of Hwy 51 and Hwy 138. Reception will
follow at the Community Center. Proceeds will benefit the Cooksville Community Center
and Stoughton Chambers Singers.

“Trash toTreasures” Rummage Sale Saturday, June 21st 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
Please keep this event in mind when you do your springcleaning. The same guidelines for
other rummage sales are applicable in this case: clean, gently used items – clothing, toys,
glassware, household items, furniture, books, kitchen, antiques and collectibles.
Pre-registration is required by June 7th to Cindy Johnson: 608-712-1736, or
cmjohnson150@gmail.com.  Cost to vendor: $10.00/long table and 20% of total profits. It
will be first come, first serve for set-up and tables. The Center will be open Thursday,
June 19, 2-6 PM & Friday, June 20th, 4-8 PM, for set-up and display. Vendor space will
be available throughout the Center and outside the building on the grounds, if you have a
tent. Vendors are responsible for marking merchandise and setting up in advance of the
June 21st event and removal by 6:00 p.m. on June 21st. Proceeds will benefit the Center
as well as individual sellers.

“Red, White and Blue Transportation Contest” & Family Picnic
Friday, July 4, 12:30 p.m.

 Come and socialize with friends and neighbors. By special
request, a new feature is being added this year. A special contest will judge all decorated
alternate forms of transportation: bikes, walkers, wagons, strollers, unicycles, but not
cars. Items will be judged at 12:30 PM. Prizes will be awarded with a communal meal to
follow on the Commons, about 12:45 PM. Bring a dish to pass and your own plate,
silverware and liquid refreshments to this annual event.

“One Room Schoolhouse” Christmas Program Saturday, July 26th, 2 p.m.
Former student Jeanne Julseth will create and direct the Christmas program in summertime
from her memories as a student at the Cooksville Schoolhouse. There will be roles
for children and adults to perform in skits, recitations, singing, a short Christmas play,
and perhaps a visit by Santa Claus. The focus this year will be magic and storytelling.

want to participate in this second annual event. This is a family event, appropriate for all
ages. Practice sessions will be on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9-12 AM, July 1st to
July 24th. There will be something for everybody! Location: Cooksville schoolhouse.

Estate Planning Essentials  Sunday, August 17th, 6:30 p.m.
Rebecca Mackie, a Cooksville native and Attorney at Law with KOHLS &
ASSOCIATES, LLC , will give a one hour program on Estate Planning Essentials.
Attendees will learn about the essential elements of estate planning at this informative
workshop, What is the Probate process, and what simple techniques can be used to avoid
it? What is a Will? What is a Trust? Discover answers to these questions, and more.
Location: Cooksville Community Center.

Cooksville Community Center Annual Meeting Monday, September 22nd, 7 p.m.
Join neighbors for a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. for socializing and sharing of opinions.
Learn what has happened this past year and what is on the agenda for the future at this
annual event. This is your opportunity to voice your opinions about the Center. We want
your input to help us manage the Center. Location: Cooksville Community Center.

Annual Halloween Party Saturday, October 18th, 6:30 p.m.
Join us for our annual Halloween party. There will be games and activities for kids and a
bonfire for adults. Bring your own beverages and a snack or dessert to share.
Flashlights are strongly encouraged at the Commons and schoolyard as it can get very
dark, especially around Halloween! You are also welcome to get into the Halloween
spirit by helping to decorate the Center at 12:00 noon on October 18th. Location:
Cooksville Community Center.

Impromptu winter snow days To be scheduled January or February, 2015
If you are interested in playing with others in the snow, please notify Jeanne Julseth of
your interest: phone 608-882-0505. She will contact you, when a date is selected for
snow angels, snow fort building, and cross-country skiing and snowshoe paths near the
woods on the Commons. All participants must provide their own ski equipment and snow
shoes. Again, this is open for all ages! Location: Cooksville Commons
